September 13, 2002--Removing the bronzes.

Location-Vincennes, IN

Monument with cranes in place. Cranes and Riggers by Industrial Contractors of Evansville, IN

Strapping up the 14' bronze figure and granite cap stones.

Close up of the riggers doing their thing.  Notice I'm on the ground taking the pictures.

A big Thank You to the extremely skilled and dedicated men who worked to make this phase of the project a success.

The "Standard Bearer" near the ground.  One stone came down that we did not expect to bring.  It was pinned to the cap stones.

This created a period of concern.  The monument is very unstable and this entire operation was a mixture of power with delicacy

This assembly weighed around 3 1/2 tons..

On the ground.  This is a big one that did NOT get away.

We removed the stone on the bottom by chipping away some cement and cutting the steel rod that had been mortared in place.

He is sitting on the concrete now on the two top cap stones.

The four life-size figures on the corners of the monument were removed with little effort and placed in storage.

Watch for continuing work and more photos in the coming months.
